We were approached by Nutritionadvance.com in April 2017, a relatively new content-focused website in the notoriously difficult nutrition niche. Despite gaining good traffic from social channels, we wanted to build a strong volume of high quality links, with the end of goal of driving more organic traffic from Google, which at the time wasn’t budging significantly despite adding lots of amazing content.
It’s one thing to create all the greatest content in the World, but you need to actively promote it if you’re going to build links and climb the search rankings.
Rapid Progress
Here’s a screen shot of our progress thus far since coming on board;
Organic traffic has climbed from 15,600 visitors per month to 38,000 visitors per month – a whopping 243% increase in just 5 months.
Our Approach
Fortunately, we had some truly outstanding content to work with. The founder and writer Michael is a PhD level nutritionist, and writes incredibly detailed articles about all sorts of food nutrition topics.
We decided to select articles that had a good keyword volume and provided a good opportunity for ranking higher in the SERPs (somewhat low to moderate competition). After that, it was a case of compiling a target list of prospects for each article that we wanted to go after.
These are ultimately the kind of links you dream of – Highly relevant links from highly relevant websites in the same niche – Nutrition, food and health. So far we’ve built a strong number of links consistently for months on end and it’s clearly paying off in a rapid way.
Proving that great content is essential (for great link building)
It’s another reason why we always urge our clients to create amazing, detailed content that’s genuinely marketable. So many SEO agencies are stuck in a 2010 mindset of churning out 10 * 500 word articles and having the audacity to believe they’ll have any real positive impact on their website. Word count is essential, detail is essential and having something that’s truly unique and insightful is essential.
Of course without the outreach side of things, you’re never going to build links unless you’re already a well established, high authority website.
Ultimately, link building is the most true signal to Google that your website should be trusted – If people are consistently taking the time and effort to link back to your site over time, then you must be doing something right.
If you’re in a similar situation, creating great content but unable to drive the inbound links you feel you should be, then please feel free to drop us an email.
